Victorian Tussie Mussies
Casey Schwartz and Kit Wertz, the floral design team
from Flower Duet, will lead a class in making a Victorian traditional Tussie-Mussies or Nosegay Bouquets. In addition
to learning how to choose fresh flowers at the store or flower mart,
how to condition them to make them last in vases and how to arrange them in two different Victorian Tussie-Mussie designs,
students will learn a little about Victorian garden design and flower lore. Victorians believed each flower in a bouquet
held special meaning for the recipient. There was even a "meaning" associated with how the bouquet was presented – stems or
blooms first! A Victorian suitor would send red roses to his sweetheart to tell her, "I love you" without ever having to say
it out loud. Participants will work with seasonal flowers that have traditional Victorian meanings so they can send a message
with flowers. Students will take home their own gorgeous arrangements along with helpful tips and step-by-step instructions.
